Experiences and insights
The things worth doing here, written for somebody who lives here for a month rather than visits for a weekend — and the writing that comes out of those months.
Experiences
Standing things — a walk, a market, a stretch of coast. Written for the version of you that is here on a Tuesday, not on a holiday.

Shopping the covered market in Dénia
Example content. Dénia has been a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy since 2015, and the municipal market is where that means something practical rather than decorative — this is a shopping trip, not an attraction.
Swimming at the Granadella
Example content. The cove at the southern end of Xàbia, which turns up on every beach list for Spain and therefore has a parking problem that is the real subject of this page.
The Serra Gelada cliff path
Example content. The ridge that rises at the eastern end of Benidorm's Levante beach, and the path along the top of it — two hours well spent on this stretch of coast and the least likely thing to be in a brochure about the town.
Events
Anything with a date attached ages badly, so each of these carries the day somebody last checked it was still running.
The weekly coworking meetup in Alicante
Example content. A recurring, informal gathering of people who work remotely from the city — the kind of thing that decides whether a month somewhere is sociable or solitary.
The grape harvest in the Jalón valley
Example content. The inland valley behind the coast turns over to the harvest in early autumn, and the villages along it hold it as a public thing rather than a ticketed one.
Insights
Field reports from one stay, third-person regional pieces, and the occasional note arguing about something.
Nothing published yet. The first pieces will appear here as they are written.
Something here out of date?
Events stop running and prices move. Every page on this site carries the day somebody last looked, so you can see how much to trust it.
