Editorial policy

Disclosure

How this site makes money, which articles are influenced by that, and the rules we apply so that the editorial layer can still be trusted.

The short version

Coliving Costa Blanca has two sources of money beyond its (eventual) paid product: coliving partnerships and service affiliate links. Both can influence which spaces we cover. Neither buys uncritical coverage. Articles and reviews that involve a partnership are marked unambiguously and link back to this page.

What you'll see

There are three patterns to recognise:

  • "Supported by" — appears on articles and coliving reviews where the subject of the piece is a partner. The partner has not seen the draft and has not edited it. They have agreed to be the topic; we have not agreed to be flattering.
  • Affiliate links — outbound links to accommodation, coworking, or insurance products where we earn a small commission if you sign up. We only link to things we'd recommend without the commission.
  • No marker — most pages on the site. No partner involvement, no affiliate income, no commercial relationship to disclose.

Coliving partnerships, specifically

Some coliving spaces pay us a fee to commission a regional article that prominently features them. The fee covers the writing, the travel, and the editorial time. It does not cover the conclusions.

The rules we apply, internally and visibly:

  1. We only enter a partnership with a space we'd already consider covering. The editorial calendar is not auctioned.
  2. Negative observations stay in the piece. If the Wi-Fi drops twice during our stay, that's in the review.
  3. The partner does not see the article before publication, beyond a factual check ("did you actually have 22 rooms or 24"). They do not have approval rights over tone, conclusions, or rating.
  4. If a partner withdraws because they didn't like a piece, the piece still runs. We've not had to do this yet; the policy exists so that we will, when it comes up.

Service affiliates

Where the editorial mentions an external service — coworking networks, insurance providers, accommodation platforms — the outbound link may be an affiliate link. The signal to look for: the link is to the service, not to a comparison or generic reference page.

We don't run affiliate links to anything we wouldn't recommend without them. The commission is the byproduct of the recommendation, not its source.

What we don't do

  • We don't publish AI-generated prose that hasn't been substantially edited by a human. That bar applies to all editorial, partnered or not.
  • We don't accept payment to remove negative content or to suppress a published piece.
  • We don't run sponsored content disguised as editorial. Every partnered piece is marked.
  • We don't sell email addresses or share signup data with partners. The newsletter is ours and stays that way.

What we will do better

This page will get more specific as the partnership programme grows. When it makes sense to list current partners by name, we'll do that. When it makes sense to add a retired-partners archive, we'll do that too. The policy above is the floor, not the ceiling.

Questions or corrections

If you spot a piece that should be marked and isn't, or if you'd like to clarify anything on this page, write to hello@coliving-costa-blanca.com. We'll respond within a week, and correct anything that needs correcting publicly rather than quietly.
